Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour 2 1/2 cups
  • Baking powder 2 1/2 teaspoons
  • Salt 1/2 teaspoon
  • Unsalted butter 1 cup
  • Sugar 2 cups
  • Eggs 4
  • Vanilla extract 2 teaspoons
  • Whole milk 1 cup

Preparation Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans. 2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. 3. In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract. 4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. 5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and smooth the tops. 6. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. 7. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before removing and transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. 8. Once cooled, frost the cake with your favorite frosting and decorate as desired. Enjoy your classic birthday cake!
